Job Purpose

The Safety Intern is an entry-level position designed for individuals pursuing a career in occupational safety or construction safety. This internship provides hands-on experience in supporting safety operations under the guidance of experienced safety personnel. The Safety Intern assists with inspections, documentation, training sessions, and promoting a safe work environment, gaining practical knowledge of safety standards, procedures, and regulations.

Essential Functions

  • Assist with on-site safety inspections and identify potential hazards.

  • Support the preparation and organization of safety documentation, including training materials and incident reports.

  • Help monitor compliance with personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements and site-specific safety rules.

  • Participate in safety meetings and toolbox talks, providing administrative support when needed.

  • Assist in coordinating site-specific safety orientations and training sessions.

  • Encourage open communication about safety concerns and promote near-miss reporting.

  • Observe and document safety practices to gain practical learning experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Safety Support:

    • Aid safety personnel in day-to-day operations.

    • Act as a resource for basic safety questions and concerns on active job sites.

  • Training & Education:

    • Help prepare materials for safety training and orientation sessions.

    • Participate in training to build a foundational understanding of safety practices.

  • Compliance Monitoring:

    • Perform routine checks to ensure compliance with safety regulations and company policies.

    • Report findings to senior safety staff and suggest potential corrective actions.

Education & Experience Requirements
  • Currently enrolled in a bachelor’s or associate degree program in Occupational Safety, Construction Management, or a related field.

  • Basic understanding of construction practices and safety principles.

  • Prior exposure to construction safety through coursework or projects is a plus but not required.

  • Eagerness to learn and apply safety principles in a practical environment.

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to follow instructions and take initiative when appropriate.

Work Environment & Physical Demands

  • Primarily based on active construction sites, with occasional exposure to office settings.

  • Must navigate construction sites, including climbing ladders, walking on uneven terrain, and working in varying weather conditions.

  • Work hours align with site operations, with flexibility for academic commitments if part-time.
