Job Description: Paralegal / Legal Assistant II (Contract)
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Paralegal / Legal Assistant II to support a specialized collateral documentation project. The successful candidate will review loan and deal documentation, identify and validate secured collateral filings in both Canada (PPSA) and the United States (UCC), and extract relevant information for tracking and reporting purposes. This is an independent contributor role requiring strong attention to detail, legal documentation experience, and advanced Excel skills.

Key Responsibilities
  • Review loan, financing, and deal documentation.
  • Identify and validate collateral filings and security interests.
  • Review and analyze Canadian PPSA filings and U.S. UCC filings.
  • Extract relevant collateral and filing information into Excel-based tracking tools.
  • Maintain accurate records and reporting logs.
  • Support collateral tracking initiatives and project deliverables.
  • Collaborate with legal, lending, operations, and project teams as required.
  • Work independently while ensuring high levels of accuracy and compliance.
Required Qualifications
  • 4+ years of experience in a legal, paralegal, law clerk, loan documentation, secured lending, or related environment.
  • Experience reviewing legal, financing, lending, or collateral documentation.
  • Knowledge of Canadian PPSA filings and/or U.S. UCC filings.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
  • Excellent attention to detail and analytical skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Experience working in a law firm, legal department, or similar legal environment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Paralegal, Legal Assistant, Law Clerk Diploma, or equivalent legal education.
  • Experience supporting secured lending, commercial lending, or collateral management functions.
  • Exposure to both Canadian and U.S. collateral filing processes.
  • Prior law firm experience.
