I-2712 - SCADA Systems Intern

Job Objective:
Support the Real Time Applications and SCADA team with the monitoring, troubleshooting, testing, documentation, and enhancement of the Company's SCADA systems. This internship provides hands-on exposure to industrial control systems, operational technology (OT), field communications, data acquisition, HMI development, and pipeline operations while working alongside SCADA, Automation, IT, and Operations personnel.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

SCADA System & Application Support

• Assist with monitoring SCADA system performance, reliability, alarms, communications, and data quality.
• Support troubleshooting of SCADA application, communication, and data issues under the guidance of experienced team members.
• Assist with validation of SCADA points, tags, historian data, and system configurations.
• Support testing and documentation of system changes prior to deployment.
• Participate in routine system health checks and maintenance activities.

HMI, Data & Visualization

• Assist with creating and modifying SCADA graphics, HMI displays, trends, reports, and dashboards.
• Support user acceptance testing and validation of SCADA display and application enhancements.
• Assist with extracting, analyzing, and validating operational data and identifying potential data discrepancies.

Field Communications & Integration

• Gain exposure to SCADA communication architectures, including radio, cellular, Ethernet, and industrial networking.
• Assist with documentation and troubleshooting of communication paths between RTUs, PLCs, field devices, and host systems.
• Support field device integration, testing, and validation activities under appropriate supervision.

Projects & Documentation

• Support SCADA upgrades, migrations, integrations, and other technology projects.
• Assist with technical documentation, system drawings, inventory, and configuration management.
• Participate in testing and commissioning activities associated with new assets, system enhancements, and acquisitions.
• Collaborate with SCADA, Automation, IT, and Operations personnel to support assigned projects and operational needs.

Qualifications:

• Applicant must have full summer available.
• Intern should have an interest in pursuing a career in the oil & gas industry.
• Required: 3.25 or higher GPA (Preferred: 3.5 or higher GPA)
• Strong interest in SCADA, operational technology, industrial automation, information technology, or pipeline operations.
• Basic understanding of computer systems, networking, programming, or related technical concepts.
• Familiarity with networking fundamentals, industrial control systems, PLCs, RTUs, or SCADA systems preferred but not required.
• Exposure to SQL, Python, PowerShell, scripting, databases, or other programming concepts is a plus.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills.
• Ability and willingness to learn new technologies and technical concepts.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to accurately document technical information.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively with technical and operational teams.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
