Clinical Assistant - CNA or CMA

Employees in this classification provide patient care management to an assigned clinic in the areas of clerical and clinical duties. In the clinical setting, the employee receives direct supervision from a physician or nursing supervisor in either oral or written form. In the office setting, the employee receives direct supervision from the department administrator. Work is performed under usual office and clinic conditions, and may be stressful when working under emergency conditions.

Your work matters from the moment a patient walks through the door. As a CNA/CMA with TTUHSC, you’ll be an essential part of the care team, supporting patients, assisting health care providers, and helping deliver compassionate, patient-centered care.

• Assists licensed health care providers with collecting and documenting patient information to support assessment of physical and mental health status, needs, preferences, and concerns.
• Obtains and records vital signs, patient history, medication information, and other clinical data as directed and within the scope of the position.
• Observes patients for changes in condition, behavior, or responses to care and promptly communicates relevant findings to the appropriate health care provider.
• Assists with patient examinations, treatments, procedures, and other clinical activities as directed by licensed health care providers.
• Supports patients with activities and care needs appropriate to the clinical setting and position.
• Communicates patient information accurately and timely through the electronic medical record (EMR) to support clinical decision-making and continuity of care.
• Assists the interdisciplinary health care team in identifying patient needs and contributing to patient-centered goals and plans of care.
• Provides patients and families with appropriate information and assistance, escalating questions or concerns to the appropriate health care provider.
• Maintains a safe, clean, organized, and patient-ready clinical environment.
• Follows established clinical procedures, infection prevention practices, safety standards, privacy requirements, and organizational policies.
• Demonstrates respectful and culturally responsive communication when working with patients and families from diverse cultural, ethnic, and social backgrounds.
• Collaborates effectively with nurses, providers, medical assistants, students, residents, and other members of the health care team.
• Assists with coordinating patient care, referrals, follow-up activities, and other clinic workflows as assigned.
• May assist with patient education and health promotion activities appropriate to the role and under the direction of licensed health care providers.
• Maintains accurate, timely, and complete documentation in accordance with organizational, regulatory, and professional standards.
• Performs other duties as assigned in support of TTUHSC’s commitment to patient care, education, research, and service.

A minimum of a High School diploma or equivalent. Graduation from an approved certified program for assistants in the area of required specialty. Certification by an approved accredited certifying agency in the specialty in which the particular work will be performed.
